As for items that are just handy to have: first aid kit, jumper cables, ice scraper and snow brush, even if just to scrape your windshield after a Costco trip, phone charger, and windshield washer fluid. These are essential everyday items that can be used without an emergency happening.
Extreme Emergency Preparedness
The following items will fall on the extreme side for the average person travelling to and from work or doing errands around town. If you love your road trips or heading into the bush, add these items to the back of your vehicle just in case. As scary as it may seem, carry a seatbelt cutter, road flares, and fire extinguisher. For winter driving trips, throw some kitty litter in your vehicle to be used in the event of needing traction on icy roads, antifreeze, a small shovel, and warmers. In addition, have some energy bars or other non-perishable food items and bottled water as you never know how long you might have to wait for roadside assistance. It’s smart to have a flashlight, extra batteries, tow rope, and tool kit.
